Brian Burres (MHCC Baseball Player) - While playing baseball at Mt. Hood Community College, Brian Burres was the Southern Region MVP, 1st team all-NWAC, 1st team NWAC All-Tournament team, and was a key leader on the 2000 MHCC NWAC Championship baseball team. Burres, played 16 years of professional baseball; parts of six years in the Major Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburg Pirates and the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as internationally in Taiwan, Mexico, and Venezuela. Burres recently served as an assistant coach at MHCC for 2 years (2017, 2018) and was the head coach in the WCL for the Cowlitz Black Bears. Burres completed his degree in economics from Portland State University, paid for by the MLB college scholarship plan. He graduated Suma Cum Laude with a 3.9 GPA.
Dave Dangler (LBCC Head Baseball Coach) - While the Head Baseball Coach at Linn-Benton Community College, Dave Dangler won OCCAA baseball titles in 1978, 1980, 1983, and his 1977, 1979, 1981, and 1982 teams finished as runner ups. In his seven-year span at LBCC, his teams won 214 games and had a winning percentage of .718. Dangler also coached women's basketball at Linn-Benton where he led the Road Runners to the OCCAA 1980-1981 championship. They were ranked #3 nationally by the Associated Press. Their record of 28-2 is still the best in school history.
Terry McLaughlin (ChCC Head Volleyball Coach) - Terry McLaughlin spent 16 years as the Head Volleyball Coach of the Chemeketa Community College volleyball team. Under his leadership, the Storm won five league titles and finished in the top two of the southern region 11 times. His teams qualified for the NWAC championship tournament 13 of 16 seasons. The Storm placed in the top four of the NWAC championships 9 out of 13 times. ChCC Volleyball won three NWAC championships and had three seasons of at least 50 wins. In 2008, the Chemeketa Storm went 50-0 and that record still stands. Upon his retirement, McLaughlin won 574 matches, has a winning percentage of 75%, and has won numerous coach of the year honors.
Meadow McWhorter (MHCC Head Softball Coach) - Meadow McWhorter was the head coach at Mt. Hood Community College between 2002 and 2016. During McWhorter's tenure at Mt. Hood, she won seven Southern Region Championships (2004, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2016), five NWAC Championships (2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, and 2016), was named the NWAC Coach of the Year four times (2009, 2010, 2014 and 2016), and her staff earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coaching Staff of the Year three times (2004, 2008, and 2014). While at Mt. Hood, McWhorter's teams were not only successful on the field but excelled in the classroom as well. Her leadership was recognized not only by her peers at Mt. Hood but across the conference and her student-athletes were an excellent reflection of the outstanding qualities that McWhorter possesses and instills in her students. McWhorter was fiercely competitive but was also a strong supporter of improving opportunities for girls and women of all ages. She was also an advocate for all students at Mt. Hood and worked closely with the Associated Student Government to provide voices and equitable opportunities for all students.
Rashinda Reed (SWOCC, Volleyball Player) - Rashinda Reed was an outstanding volleyball player at SWOCC during the early 2000's. She earned All-NWAC Conference accolades in 2002 before transferring to the University of Georgia, where she played from 2002-2004. She played five seasons of professional volleyball overseas. Her coaching career began at the University of Southern Indiana in 2009 and the past five years she has been an assistant coach at the University of Illinois, making four NCAA Tournament trips. Prior to her time at Illinois, Reed was an assistant coach at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016, at Northeastern University in 2015 and Binghamton University from 2011-14. In 2012, the Bearcats won the American East Conference Championship to secure a bid to the NCAA Tournament. She coached seven all-conference honorees at Binghamton, including the 2014 Rookie of the Year and 2012 Setter of the Year, while also serving as the club director of the Whirlwind Volleyball Club managing 14 coaches and 140 athletes. In December of 2021, Reed was named the head coach of the University of Alabama volleyball program.
John Lee (PCC, Outstanding Service) - Portland Community College instructor and Coach, John Lee, has a history and legacy unmatched in PCC Athletics. The long-time educator had stints as both the head men's and head women's basketball coach during his significant service to PCC athletics and the greater Portland community. Lee coached the men's basketball team from 1973-1991 and coached the women's team from 2007-2012. Coach Lee's teams were known for their focus and unselfish, team-first style of play. Student-athletes who competed under Lee knew they would learn valuable life lessons under his leadership. Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, Lee came west to attend Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon where he was a standout three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and baseball. Lee was drafted by the New York Yankees after his junior season at Linfield. Coach Lee was inducted into the Portland Community College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. In addition, Lee was inducted into the Linfield College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. Portland Community College has established The Coach John Lee Athletic Scholarship in his honor, which is awarded annually to a deserving PCC student-athlete.
2000 Mt. Hood Baseball Team - Led by NWAC Hall of Fame Head Baseball Coach Gabe Sandy, the Mt. Hood Community College Saints (Southern Region Co-Champions) traveled to Lane Community College (Southern Region Co-Champions) and won a one-game playoff to enter the tournament as the #1 seed from the south. A week later, the Saints defeated the Lower Columbia College Red Devils to win the 2000 NWAC Baseball Championship. The Saints and Red Devils played three times in the tournament splitting the first two and the Saints winning the championship game. Nine players from this team made 1st and 2nd team All Southern Region, four members made the All-NWAC teams, and NWAC MVP was Mike Davies. During spring break the Saints traveled to Arizona and defeated the then #1 team in the country Central Arizona Junior College. Four players went on to sign and play professional baseball and eight players went on to play baseball at the four-year level. Six of the eight played Division I baseball.
2008 Chemeketa Volleyball Team - Under the direction of Coach Terry McLaughlin, the Chemeketa Storm volleyball team set a record in 2008 by going undefeated in Southern Region play, won 50 matches in a row, finished the season 50-0, and won the NWAC Volleyball Championship. Led by Region Player of the Year, Chelsea Fossback, ChCC set a record that has yet to be broken. Fossback was also named Championship Tournament MVP. Standout performers included 1st Team All-League and All Championship Team honoree, Tabbie Smith, Alisha (Shigley) Jones, 1st Team All-League and All Championship Team, Amber Manthe, 2nd Team All-League and Porsha Ellison, 1st Team Championship Team.
