Calnon’s Gem Leads Lane Past Rival LBCC 3-2 in Elimination Game

LONGVIEW, Wash. – The Lane Titans defeated region rival Linn-Benton 3-2 to advance on in the NWAC Baseball Championship on Saturday at David Story Field.

The Titans got a standout pitching performance from Cole Calnon who went the distance with six strikeouts. After allowing two runs in the first, Calnon settled down to shutout the Roadrunners over the final eight innings. Calnon peppered the strike zone as he threw 84 of 121 pitches for strikes.

After falling behind 2-0, the Titans used a two-run third to tie the game. Bryan Rojas brought across the first run on an RBI single before Calnon helped himself by driving in a run on a fielding error. In the sixth, the Titans got their first and only needed lead as Nathan Marshall had a two-out RBI single to bring across the go-ahead run.

Calnon did the rest on the mound as he did not allow a runner past first base over the final four innings. Rojas led the offense was again with a 3-for-4 day as he has gone 9-for-10 in three tournament games.

Dylan Rush was solid for the Roadrunners, pitching seven innings with three runs allowed, two strikeouts and no walks. Camden Stephens came in and did not allow a baserunner in the final two innings to give the LBCC bats a chance. Trey Nelson went 2-for-4 for Linn-Benton while Spencer Sullivan and Daniel Pruitt each had RBI hits.

The Titans continue on in the tournament as they will be in the final four. Depending on the results of Saturday's games, the Titans will take on either Spokane or Tacoma at 12:05 p.m. or 4:05 p.m. on Sunday.
