Umpqua Wins 1st Ever Tournament Game, 6-2 Over Everett
LONGVIEW, Wash. - Making their first-ever tournament appearance, the No. 2 Umpqua Riverhawks defeated No.1 Everett 6-2 in game two of the 2025 NWAC Baseball Championship on Thursday afternoon at David Story Field.
The Riverhawks (27-23) capitalized early, scoring two runs in each of the first and third innings to take a 4-0 lead. Ryson Waalani drove in a pair in the first followed by Noah Cox with two more in the third. It was all the run support starting pitcher Logan Robinson would need as he pitched into the eighth inning, allowing one run on seven hits with four punchouts. Robinson's twin brother Hunter Robinson came into the game in relief, allowing one unearned run in two innings.
Zane Bidwell drove in two more runs in the top of the sixth to extend the Riverhawks' lead to 6-0. Bidwell went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The Trojans (39-11) managed to break through with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Max Paterson led the Trojans with a 3-for-5 day, scoring a run. Alex Puls went 2-for-4. Jacob Petersen pitched 2.2 shutout innings in relief for Everett. Basil Hendrix made the start, but allowed four runs over 2.1 innings.
The Riverhawks begin their first-ever NWAC Championship with a 1-0 record. They will next take on West No. 2 seed Tacoma on Friday at 4:35 p.m. in the winner's bracket. Everett falls to the loser's bracket, next taking on Spokane on Friday at 9:35 a.m.
