Veley's 2-Hitter Leads Tacoma to 2-0 Victory over Umpqua
LONGVIEW, Wash. - Dylon Veley threw a two-hitter to lead the Tacoma Titans to a 2-0 win against Umpqua in game seven of the 2025 NWAC Baseball Championship on Friday afternoon at David Story Field.
Veley was lights out from the first pitch as he retired the first 20 batters he faced before Zane Bidwell's single broke up the perfect game bid. Veley wasn't fazed, however, as he allowed just one more hit to move Tacoma on in the winner's bracket. Veley was extremely efficient as he needed just 85 pitches to finish the game, striking out nine batters without issuing a walk. The defense was also strong behind Veley, making acrobatic plays to keep the shutout intact.
The Titans got Veley a lead before he ever stepped on the mound as Amari Goodfellow doubled Vaughn Lowe home in the top of the first. In the third inning, Goodfellow once again brought Lowe home on a single to give TCC and Veley a 2-0 lead.
Jordan Lennartson pitched a strong game for Umpqua, allowing two runs over seven innings with two walks and seven punchouts. Brevin Harrison pitched the final two innings in relief, not allowing a run.
Overall, the game lasted just one hour and 44 minutes as each team's pitching staff worked efficiently.
The Titans move on in the winner's bracket as they will face the winner of Friday's nightcap between Linn-Benton and Lower Columbia on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. Umpqua moves down to the loser's bracket and will next face Bellevue on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in an elimination game.
