Job Announcement: Head Men's Basketball Coach, Big Bend

Big Bend Community College is currently accepting applications for its head men's basketball coach position.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Head Men's Basketball Coach in the college's Athletic Department. The Head Men's Basketball Coach provides direction and leadership for all aspects of the college's intercollegiate basketball team. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will teach basketball skills at the collegiate level; hire qualified coaches to assist in the development of student athletes; develop, manage, and assess budgets and equipment, adhering to BBCC athletic policies; and ensure academic and athletic eligibility of all basketball student-athletes.
This is a part-time position with an annual (July 1-June 30) stipend starting at $8,500. The salary will be pro-rated based upon the start date and remainder of the fiscal year. Additional campus employment may be available based upon qualifications and interest. This position is not benefit-eligible and is exempt from overtime.  

In collaboration with the Department of Athletics and student-athletes, the head coach is also responsible for fundraising for the men's basketball program. This position requires strong planning and organizational skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with athletes, other coaches, and college staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Provide administration, leadership, and direction for the intercollegiate basketball program.
  • Teach individual basketball and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork; and develop and enforce training rules.
  • Monitor and support the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student-athletes with an emphasis on retaining student-athletes.
  • Scout and recruit with student athletes who are qualified, both academically and athletically, for intercollegiate completition.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with local area club and high school basketball coaches and programs.
  • Conduct intercollegiate programs in accordance with Northwest Athletic. Conference (NWAC) and established college and athletic department rules and regulations.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Athletics, work cooperatively with Student Activities leaders and staff.
  • Develop collaborative and collegial relationships with other coaches, student leaders, and staff in the department and throughout the campus community.
  • Fully participate in athletic activities, including departmental meetings, outreach and fundraising events, and other relevant functions as requested.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate practice and game/tournament schedules.
  • Schedule all team travel arrangements.
  • Compile and report team scores and statistics to the NWAC office in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with advising, registration, and financial aid processes of student-athletes.
  • Work closely with college communications and marketing staff to develop website and promotional materials for basketball.
  • Organize fundraising activities to enhance and develop athletic programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee summer camps and clinics.
  • Inventory and track assigned athletic equipment.
  • Maintain and improve existing fields and facilities, including general preparation and maintenance.
  • Work closely with Activity Center Coordinator and the Athletic Fields Coordinator to staff home games/tournaments.
  • Understand and comply with the policies and procedures of the college.
  • Complete and process appropriate paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain and manage a budget and track team and program expenditures to ensure spending is appropriate and within the provided budget and Title IX guidelines.
  • Maintain and manage student-athlete scholarship awards.
  • Maintain a demeanor on the field/court that is professional and exhibit behavior away from the field/court that is representative of college and athletic department missions and policies.
  • Work closely with the Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, and Vice-President of Learning and Student Success to ensure student-athlete behavior is appropriate both on the field/court and away from the field/court.
  • Issue discipline in accordance with the BBCC Student Code of Conduct and BBCC Athletic Standards.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Director of Athletics.
