Red Devils Offensive Explodes to Earn Trip Back to Final 4 After 96-74 Win Against TVCC
PASCO, Wash. — The defending champions will be back in the Final Four as Lower Columbia (22-6, 10-4) secured a decisive 96-74 victory over Treasure Valley (17-10, 13-1) in Game 9 of the 2026 NWAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by ICCU, on Thursday at Columbia Basin College.
After winning their first title last season since 2005, the Red Devils looked comfortable in the Elite 8 round as they knocked off the East Region Champions. LCC shot an impressive 62.1 percent from the field as they could not be stopped offensively, building a lead as large as 24 points in the second half. This included shooting 20-for-29 from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Lower Columbia started the first half with a strong defensive presence, forcing TVCC into multiple missed shots early on. Noah Schow opened the scoring with two free throws, and Skyler Schmidt followed with a jumper to extend the lead. LCC capitalized on fast-break opportunities, with Chance White and James Grose each contributing key layups to build a 14-point advantage at the 6:44 mark. Despite the Chukars' efforts to close the gap, highlighted by Jeremiah Williams' free throws and Alain Nziza's layup, the Red Devils maintained a 42-34 lead at the end of the half, bolstered by Shane Douma-Sanchez's three-pointer and Kenyan Jackman-Thomas's late dunk.
Lower Columbia extended its lead early in the second half, with Noah Schow hitting a 3-pointer at the 19:23 mark, assisted by Grose. Schmidt's tip-in and Douma-Sanchez's three-point play further widened the gap. Despite efforts from TVCC, including a 3-pointer from Nziza, LCC maintained control. The Red Devils' offensive efficiency, highlighted by consistent scoring from Douma-Sanchez and Jackman-Thomas, secured a decisive victory with a final score of 96-74.
Schmidt stood out for the Red Devils, leading the team with 23 points as he was remarkably efficient going 10-of-11 from the field, and contributing eight rebounds. Douma-Sanchez also made a significant impact, scoring 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and grabbing nine rebounds. Grose was effective beyond the arc, hitting three 3-pointers and totaling 13 points. White led the team in assists with six, while also adding eight points and three rebounds. Jackman-Thomas added depth in scoring with 16 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight.
Mason Venema led TVCC with an efficient shooting performance, hitting 6-of-8 field goals and contributing 15 points. Williams was also a standout, recording 15 points and leading the team with eight rebounds. His performance at the free-throw line was crucial, making 7-of-10 attempts, and he added four assists. Nziza provided defensive strength with three steals, while also scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds.
Lower Columbia will take some time off as they next play on Friday, March 13 against Bellevue in the Final Four. The Chukars complete a great season with a 17-10 record, winning the East Region title.
