Hawks Men Take 1st, Women 2nd to Lead All NWAC Teams at CBC Invitational

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Columbia Basin Hawks had the top finishing NWAC teams in both the men's and women's tournaments at their own CBC Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Meadow Springs Golf Course.

The Hawks men took first place out of eight teams with a team score of +39, outshooting Southwestern Oregon who placed second, by eight strokes. The Hawks were in second place heading into round two they trailed SWOCC by one stroke, but outshot the Lakers +20 to +29 on Tuesday to take the team title.

Individually, CBC's Apollos Morris was the medalist with a two-round score of 150, shooting +6. He had an incredible second round, shooting 70 to comeback from down six strokes to claim first. SWOCC had the next two top finishers in Finn Smolders (+8) and Shane Sundberg (+9) while CBC had theree of the next four in TJ Murdoc (+10), and Lucas Badger and Jesus Castaneda who tied for fifth with Spokane's Curtis Seidel at +12.

Spokane finished third as a team at +50 and they were followed by the lone non-NWAC team in Montana Tech who took fourth. Newcomers Blue Mountain placed fifth at +88, followed by Olympic (+101), South Puget Sound (+130) and Highline (+144).

On the women's side, CBC took second place as a team out of five competing programs, finishing with a team score of +106. They only trailed Montana Tech who shot +82. Spokane took third at +126, followed by SWOCC (+134) and Olympic (+177).

Montana Tech had the top-three individuals, with Spokane's Caelia Fleming taking fourth with a two-round score of 175 (+31). She was followed just behind by teammate Sydney Stenson (+32) and CBC's Rose McCartney (+33). Blue Mountain also had two individual competitors in their first year of competition in the NWAC.

NWAC Golf season continues next week at the South Puget Sound Invitational at Tumwater Valley Golf Club on April 12 and 13. Then the teams will move into league matches, with the first April 21-22 hosted by Skagit Valley at Avalon Golf Course. CBC leads both the men's and women's standings after each winning the Columbia Basin League Match back in October.
