Lakers Win Centralia League Match Led by Smolders' Medalist Performance

CENTRALIA, Wash. - The Southwestern Oregon Lakers men's golf team took home the victory at the Centralia League Match on Sunday and Monday, led by medalist Finn Smolders.

The Lakers shot +28 as a team for the two-round event, holding off second place Bellevue by just four strokes. Medalist Finn Smolders shot a two-round score of 143, +1 to win individually by just one stroke. Trailing by five strokes after round one on Sunday, Smolders shot the best score of 69 in the second round to claim the individual medal.

All four scoring golfers for the Lakers finished in the top-11 out of 53 competitors. Shane Sundberg tied for fourth place at +8. Nick Anderson tied for sixth at +9 and Rune Van den bosch placed 11th at +11.

Bellevue's Isaac Elaimy placed second at +2 as he shot 70 in round two. Columbia Basin's Jesus Castaneda placed third at +3 after he had the best first-round score of 69. Tied with Sundberg for fourth was CBC's Wyatt Hansen. In a four-way tie with Anderson for sixth was Spokane's Curtis Seidel, Bellevue's Matthew Davidson and Blue Mountain's Karsen LeMonye. Spokane's Jakeb Vallance finshed +10 to take 10th.

Bellevue shot +32 to place second. Columbia Basin finished third at +37. Following them was Spokane in fourth (+42), Blue Mountain (+58), Olympic (+70), South Puget Sound (+89), Skagit Valley (+90) and Highline (+104).

With just one league match remaining next week before the NWAC Championships, Bellevue and Columbia Basin are tied for first with 24 points each. SW Oregon moved up to just one point back in third at 23, followed by Spokane in fourth with 19 points. 

The final league match will be hosted by Spokane at Latah Creek Golf Course May 3-4.
