Lower Columbia Wins 11th NWAC Softball Title, Completes 1st Ever Undefeated Season in NWAC History

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lower Columbia Red Devils softball team created history on Sunday, capturing its 11th NWAC Softball championship and completing the first undefeated season in NWAC history at the 2025 NWAC Softball Championship at Delta Park.

The Red Devils finish the year not only hoisting the championship trophy, but with a a perfect 48-0 record. Going 5-0 in the championship tournament, LCC won four of those five games by run rule including the championship game over Everett 9-1 in five innings.

On Sunday, Lower Columbia wasted no time in gaining the lead as tournament Most Valuable Player Lex Grumbois launched a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give LCC a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Shaz Ancheta had an RBI single to extend LCC's lead to 2-0. Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings as Lower Columbia starter Zoey Hughes and Everett's Taryn Takayoshi went back-and-forth.

Then in the fourth inning, the Red Devils blew the game open with a seven-run inning to go ahead 9-0. Hailey Brooks started the scoring with a two-run home run. Then with two outs, the Red Devils strung together three hits and three walks, capped by Emma Langsi's two-run double and Grumbois' bases-clearing double. The Trojans looked to keep the game going in the top of the fifth as Kenidee Holden hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to eight runs. After getting two more runners on, however, Hughes struck out the final batter to seal the 9-1 win and the title for the Red Devils.

With the perfect record, the 2025 Lower Columbia softball team will go down as one of the best, if not the best, teams in NWAC softball history. The Red Devils added to their already NWAC best trophy case with 11 titles. However, it is the first title for LCC since 2008 and the first for head coach Traci Fuller. Clackamas is second all-time with nine championships.

The Red Devils were completely dominat in 2025 as they scored 599 total runs while allowing just 93, averaging a final score of about 12.5-2. Impressively, 36 of their 48 wins on the season were by run rule.

In 2002, the Red Devils won the title with a 41-1 record, which stood as the best single-season in NWAC history. Until now. The 2025 Lower Columbia softball team has accomplished a feat that may never be surpassed.
