Langat, Spokane Take Home 2024 NWAC Men's Cross Country Titles
UNIVERSITY, PLACE, Wash. - The Spokane Sasquatch men's cross country team earned its second-straight NWAC Men's Cross Country title and 24th overall on Saturday at Chambers Creek Regional Park, led by medalist Gilbert Langat.
Langat, running in just his first year of cross country, blazed ahead of the pack to win comfortably in 25:34.2. The win for Langat makes two-straight medalists for the Sasquatch as he followed up Luke Hurd from 2023. Langat jumped out to the lead in the first 2,000 meters and did not let up for the entirety of the race.
The Sasquatch showed their overall team depth, finishing with two All-Americans and five of the top-13 runners. They won with a final score of 42 points, besting Green River who finished with 57 points. Lane also made the podium with 67 points.
The Gators had the second and third place finishers as Jackson Rye took the silver with a time of 26:09.5 and Samuel Grice won bronze in 26:32.5. Head coach Adam Leahy was selected the NWAC Men's Coach of the Year by the conference coaches as they became the first team besides Spokane and Lane to finish in the top-two since 2013.
Clark had the fourth place finisher as Branden Chou finished in 26:43. Spokane's Travis Horn was just behind in 26:44.9 to earn All-American. A trio of Lane runners finished sixth through eighth in Tyler Davis (26:46.2), Conner Lamb (26:49.7) and Owen Fuller (26:51.2).
The 24 championships for Spokane men's cross country is the most all-time as they continue to add to their lead. The Sasquatch have now won three of the last five men's championship races.
