Spokane Claims 25th NWAC Men's Cross Country Title Behind Wright, Dominant Team Performance

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - The Spokane Sasquatch men's cross country team won its 25th NWAC title and third in a row on Monday at Spokane Valley's The Course.

The Sasquatch had an overall dominant performance as a team, with a low score of 26 points, 44 less than second place. They were also led by the race's medalist in freshman Alex Wright, who won the 8,000-meter race in a time of 25:23.3 Wright ran neck and neck with Lane's Andrew Rush and Treasure Valley's Brayden Lamanna, but pulled away over the last 1,000 meters to win by just under 10 seconds. Wright's win also extends Spokane's streak of medalists to three in a row as he follows Luke Hurd (2023) and Gilbert Langat (2024).

Spokane's top-five runners all finished within the top-8 while all 10 competitors finished in the top-20 out of the 84-man field. Holland Hurd was the next finisher for the Sasquatch in fourth with a time of 25:53.2. The Sasquatch then had four straight runners cross the finish line from sixth to ninth in Isaac Rigsby, Travis Horn, Anders Nielson and Aaron Wright. Horn earned All-American for the second-straight year for Spokane.

Lane took second place overall and were led by Rush's second place finish as he crossed in 25:32.6.  Conner Lamb placed 11th in 26:28.5 and Tyler Davis finished 17th in 27:02.2.

Southwestern Oregon took third place as a team led by strong team depth. Despite not having a runner in the top-10, all five scorers for the Lakers finished in the top-20. Emmanuel Salinas was the team's top runner in 14th, followed by Brody Michael in 16th.

Green River took fourth place as they were led by sophomore Samuel Grice who took fifth place in 26:02.8 to earn All-American for the second-straight year. Landon Swanbeck had a good race, taking 13th for the Gators.

Everett's Kenenisa Udo took 10th place to lead the Trojans to a fifth-place team finish.

A year after not having any men compete, Treasure Valley jumped back into the championship with a sixth place finish as a team, led by Lamanna's bronze medal. 

The championship meet was the first held at The Course in Spokane Valley. The next two championships through 2027 will be held there.
